Content of Course

This course is aimed at delegates who have not previously been formally trained on Solicitors Regulatory Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules 2011 assignments and staff that need a comprehensive refresher.  The course will be based around the SRA Accounts Rules 2011 and will specifically highlight areas of risk.

  • Overview of the legal sector
  • Why solicitors hold client money
  • The Solicitors Regulatory Authority
  • How client money is regulated including a detailed review of the rules and guidelines
  • Common breaches of the rules and guidelines
  • Recent changes to the rules and current issues
  • The Role of the COFA
  • The work undertaken to support an Accountant's Report,  including:-
    • Planning
    • Fieldwork, especially considering documentation of evidence and common problems
    • Finalisation including reporting issues, and
  • Practical problems and feedback arising from file reviews undertaken by HAT on SRA Accounts Rules Assignments.
