Content of Course
The course prepares participants for working on audit assignments, explaining the purpose of an audit and the types of audit procedures they will undertake. The course includes a simulated audit assignment which tests student comprehension of the principles covered. The results of this exercise are assessed by the HAT team and detailed feedback provided to attendees at the end of the course.
The course covers by use of lecturers and case studies:
- the objectives of an ‘audit’ and how one is conducted
- the concepts of risk, materiality and audit assertions
- principles of good working papers
- types of audit testing commonly undertaken
- key audit procedures and how to complete these
- introduction to the Code of Ethics
- fraud and error, law and regulation and money laundering
- introduction to UK taxation.
The course utilises the HAT Audit System to illustrate the topics above. However, it is suitable all trainees regardless of the audit methodology they will follow in practice.
The course assumes a basic understanding of the principles of double-entry bookkeeping and preparation of financial statements covered on our A Course.
