Simon heads up our Technical function. His main responsibilities are:
- Writing and presenting our quarterly technical update meetings
- Writing and presenting other courses covering audit and financial reporting
- Carrying out quality control file reviews
- Writing the Corporate manuals (Audit, Non-Audit, LLP’s and Groups)
- Supporting firms with more complex technical matters
- Representing HAT and the interests of smaller audit firms on various ICAEW and FRC working groups.
Simon is able to apply practicality and common sense to difficult technical matters. He can draw on more than 20 years of experience dealing with a wide range of clients across multiple industries, enabling him to provide clear, sensible advice.
Simon trained as a Chartered Accountant with Garbutt & Elliott in York. Two years after qualifying, he joined RSM, progressing to audit manager and then working for the firm’s national technical department. Simon joined HAT in 2013, and became a director in early 2018. He is a former board member of ICAEW’s Corporate Reporting Faculty, and now contributes to ICAEW publications and webinars and is regularly invited to participate in ICAEW and FRC working groups on matters relevant to smaller accountancy and audit firms.
Simon’s interests (when not occupied by his two daughters and/or cockapoo Obie) include supporting Arsenal, technology, movies and an increasing collection of Lego.
