Liaqat Mir BSc FCCA

Liaqat’s role is quite diverse, involving activities like presenting courses, conducting quality control file reviews, and providing support to firms through our technical helpline. Liaqat joined our team in March 2024, bringing with him a wealth of practical experience. He has spent 16 years in the compliance industry, working at SWAT/Mercia as a Technical Consultant. During this time, he has dealt with firms similar in size to many of the HAT firms, gaining valuable insights and expertise in the process.

Roles and Responsibilities

Liaqat’s major areas of responsibility are:

  • Presenting our quarterly technical update meetings
  • Writing and presenting other courses covering audit and related issues, including charities, Money Laundering updates as well as our Career Development courses
  • Carrying out quality control file reviews

Liaqat’s professional journey began with qualifying as an ACCA member in 2000, starting his career with a small audit firm in Central London with two partners. His extensive experience spans 16 years in the audit and accounts compliance industry, focusing on assisting small to medium-sized firms in navigating regulatory requirements in a practical and realistic manner.

This background influences Liaqat’s approach to reviewing firm work and delivering lectures with technical rigor, balanced by pragmatism, skepticism, and a touch of humor. His goal is to ensure that industry standards are met while also fostering a practical understanding of compliance among professionals.

Outside of work, Liaqat’s passion extends to cricket, where he is an ECB Level 3 Qualified Cricket Umpire. He spends much of his time driving his two sons to various cricket grounds in Essex, supporting their love for the sport
