Edward

My name is Edward and I joined the HAT firm Simmons Gainsford LLP after graduating from the University of Exeter with a Masters in Mathematics. I was interested in the HAT group as it was a group of small to medium sized firms which I felt would be a good opportunity to learn about how businesses work and gain exposure to a variety of industries. Being part of a smaller firm also means more responsibility is given to you at an earlier stage.

Once I joined Simmons Gainsford, I was given the opportunity to get started straight away, going on my first audit two weeks after my first day in the office. Since then I have worked on companies ranging from asset management to suppliers of fridges for high street food outlets. This exposure really complements the ACA studies well and gives me the opportunity to apply my learning as I go. On the study side of things, it is great to be part of a group that goes through the whole process with you, help each other as you go and use the experience of others to succeed as much as possible.

The combination of work and study can get very hectic but the support from colleagues and many others makes it a lot easier, and I can imagine once qualified it will be well worth it. As well as the end result, the overall experience of being part of a firm such as Simmons Gainsford prepares you for what is to come later on in your career.
