HAT Group, making accountants count

AAT Courses, Training & Recruitment

If university isn‘t for you, read more about our AAT training scheme.

What does the AAT training involve?

AAT Courses & Training

An AAT role offers you the chance to earn, learn and study for a professional qualification without incurring any student debt. In addition to earning a highly competitive annual salary, you will learn the practical aspects of accountancy whilst studying towards the AAT qualification. You will receive excellent training, combining support with your exams, practical training courses and regular reviews of your work experience. You will have the benefits of working for a small organisation, which values you as an individual, but with all the benefits of training with a large organisation.

Many AAT students progress on to the ACA qualification, so qualifying earlier than their peers who choose to go to university first. You will receive support every step of the way, from exam tutors, colleagues, your training partner and from the HAT team. All our students train with a leading firm of national tutors. For full details about the AAT exams please visit www.aat.org.uk.

As well as passing the exams, to ensure you are a competent accountant at the end of your training period, you will also attend high quality practical courses, which are written and run by HAT (these are not normally available if you choose to train with a small firm). These courses are summarised in our Training section.

VACANCIES

We look for up to 8 AAT trainees to join HAT firms each year. We have two intakes in January and August. All vacancies are in central London. For details of our current vacancies please click here.

CLOSING DATE

We do not operate a fixed closing date. When all of our roles have been filled, we will stop accepting applications. Please check the current vacancy page for our current vacancy numbers. Live information can also been found under the news feed ticker in the recruitment application form section.

MINIMUM ACADEMIC CRITERIA

You will need 112 UCAS tariff or equivalent - minimum requirements, plus a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent) for school and college leaver roles.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Once we have received your online application form, we will check to see whether we think you've got what it takes to be an exceptional trainee accountant. If we think you have, we will invite you to take our online aptitude test.

There are two parts to our aptitude test. The first section is a 35 minute maths test. This is followed by a 40 minute test on vocabulary, comprehension and logical reasoning questions. We aim to give you your aptitude test score within 48 hours of you taking the test.

If you pass the aptitude test we will invite you to a video interview. The video interview is your opportunity to bring your application to life. If you do well in this, you will then be invited to attend a face-to-face interview at our office in London. This interview is a competency based interview and will take about 45 minutes.

If you perform strongly at interview, you will be recommended to those member firms to which we believe you would be best suited. You will then be required to visit them for a second and final interview, so completing the selection procedure.

Remember one application to HAT means you will be considered for up to 2 vacancies within the group.
