Matthew Shaw

As Technical Director Matthew is responsible for editing all of HAT’s technical resources. He also lectures extensively on areas such as financial reporting (including FRS 102), audit, charities, SRA Accounts Rules 2011 and pensions. He is respected for his entertaining lecture style and most importantly his attention to detail. He is in demand as a speaker, not only for member firms but outside the Group as well.

Roles and Responsibilities

Matthew's major areas of responsibility are:

  • Editorship of all technical manuals
  • Writing and presenting on a number of HAT CPD courses including pensions, charities, SRA assignments, FCA, UK GAAP (including FRS 102) and IFRS
  • Advising practices on audit compliance
  • Presenting our quarterly technical update meetings
  • Carrying out quality control file reviews
  • Acting as EQCR on high risk and listed clients

Prior to joining HAT in 1994, Matthew graduated from The University of Reading with a 2i honors degree in Physical Geography and after teaching for a year, he trained as a Chartered Accountant with Rickard Luckin attaining first time passes. Matthew is an FCA and is also fellow of the ACCA. He is also a member of the Pensions Research Accountants Group (PRAG) and Institute of Legal Finance and Management (ILFM).

Matthew's hobbies include yoga, gardening, antiques and design.
